MY BACKGROUND
I am a dedicated future educator with a passion for helping my students develop a sense of curiosity and critical thinking, I excel in creating and engaging my students in constructivist learning experiences that help them learn through interacting with each other. I'm an advocate for inclusive and student-centered teaching, and I aim to empower students to take charge and take responsibility of their learning so they can grow into their full potential. Outside the classroom I enjoy a variety of interests, mostly hobbies tied to visual art and storytelling. I hope to use these skills in my teaching to give my students a genuine interest in the subject, especially if I have to teach literature -- a subject which I personally have a soft spot for.

My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that education is a powerful tool that allows students not only to be equipped for the real world, but also allow them to find their identities – discover their strengths and weaknesses. Every person has the right to education and effective education can help individuals harness skills that could aid them in finding a purpose in life as well as contribute something meaningful to society. As an educator, I am committed to fostering a learning environment that nurtures curiosity, creativity and critical thinking in the hopes that students will also become lifelong learners.
I view education much like a dance and it is one that is not only dependent on the teacher leading; both the learner and the teacher must actively engage in the learning process. The teacher is to serve as a facilitator and guide to the student who should also double-down as a caring second parent that can help encourage and motivate the student in their studies. The student must also have responsibility over their own learning and strive to do their best so they can reach their full potential. I believe that teaching should be student-centered, and should cater to all the different needs and learning styles of each individual student. I believe that no student learns truly on their own and that the best way for them to learn is through interaction with each other, the teacher, and the environment around them.
My Goals and Objectives
My overall goal is to help students become the best versions of themselves, not only aiding them in their academic development but also their holistic development. My students should grow to be hard-working, compassionate, creative and confident individuals. My classroom should become a safe space for everyone, it should be inclusive as much as it should be well-equipped and intellectually stimulating. My objectives include:

Curriculum, Classroom and Teaching Strategies
As a believer in student-centered teaching, my curriculum should also reflect this. I should get to know my students so when I plan out activities and big projects, I can do so with their strengths and interests in mind. I should make sure that my curriculum is flexible and can change when needed. This way I won’t overwhelm students with information, (and as much as possible) deadlines and activities.
I will employ a variety of teaching strategies in order to make my students more engaged and active during my lectures and activities and so that I can also cater to their different learning styles. I will have lots of hands-on activities as well as collaborative activities in my classroom but I’ll also have individual activities that will encourage students to be creative individually as well as showcase their personalities. I’ll mostly employ constructivist learning theories in my classroom, encouraging students to discuss and help each other when they have difficulty generating ideas on their own during class lectures.
Differentiated instruction is a must-have in order for my students to understand and be given the opportunity to succeed. Technology in my classroom will be used to support learning and research, it shouldn’t get to the point where my students will rely on it too much even with the presence of AI. In order to ready my students for the real world, they must be tech-savvy so rather than being against technology, I should be able to use it in ways that can also aid my in-classroom discussions. I should also make sure to teach my students good values that align with our Filipino culture, through my own example. That is, of course, without belittling and disregarding student’s of different cultures in my classroom either.
Assessment is an important part of the learning process as it not only helps a teacher gauge if their students are learning and understanding the lesson in the end, but also aids students in realizing their mistakes so they can perhaps take steps to correct themselves and be better. I will utilize a combination of formative and summative assessment in order to gauge understanding and mastery of the subject in my students. Formative assessments will include things like quizzes and tests, group activities, class discussion, homework, peer reviews, reflections and observations; these will allow me to find areas my students struggle with and allow me to provide appropriate feedback. For summative assessments I’ll make use of portfolios (or e-portfolios), final exams, performance assessments, cumulative projects, standardized tests, essay exams and objective tests in order to provide me a more comprehensive evaluation of my students’ learning by the end of the course.
Professional Development and Growth
I am committed to continuous professional development and recognize that the field of education is constantly evolving and changing as time passes. I think lifelong learning is essential so as a teacher I must always be open to learn, relearn and update my knowledge so I can be more effective. I’ll seek out every opportunity I come across for professional growth through conferences, workshops, individual online research, online courses and peer collaboration and also use resources that I can find on my own online in order to formulate innovative and relevant teaching strategies that I can practice within my classroom.
The Impact I hope to make:
I’d hope that in general, when my students think back to me and my class, they’ll think of it fondly. I hope to foster an appreciation for English as a language and the beauty in literature. I hope to empower my students and to make them confident in their skills and abilities enough that they aren’t afraid to take up and learn new things. I hope that I can inspire my students to be kind, compassionate, responsible and cooperative people as well so that they can get along well with others and contribute something meaningful to society. I believe education has the power to transform lives and open the gates to more opportunities to grow holistically and be better equipped to face the challenges of life and I am dedicated to the role that I play in shaping the future of my students.
My personal philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that education can help a person unlock their full potential as well as play a very important role in shaping who they will become as people in the future. My classroom environment should foster intellectual as well as personal growth and development. I believe that every student has some sort of potential in them and with just the right push, they can really grow to achieve amazing things, not just as students but as adults in their later life and it is my job as the teacher to be that “push” and also be the one to inspire them to be good people and believe in themselves so that they can see the greatness in themselves.
